Minecraft challenge runs are a staple of the crafting game's creator community. It's not what we'd consider a violent game but you do end up killing a surprising number of enemies during an ordinary playthrough, whether it's the zombies that bother you at the beginning, harvesting items from creatures in the Nether or even killing the Ender Dragon - and so an pacifist playthrough can be more difficult than you might think. You enact a lot of violence, but you don't plan on it.

There's no need to, and we know that now because of SwitchBackMongo, a Minecraft YouTuber who mostly plays Hardcore. SwitchBackMongo decided that the violence was a cycle that must end and embarked on a mission to stop the game without killing any Minecraft mobs. Well, mostly. Although technically they didn't kill anything. But the explosive beds - yes, that's right - they used around Ender Dragon certainly did.

Anyone who's played Minecraft before will be aware that when you're searching for resources, you have to defend yourself. You'll be sprayed by skeletons, spiders and creepers deep within the world. It is not easy to keep them out. Even the simplest act of grabbing some iron could lead to an argument or, you know you could be killed. This is Hardcore, so death is not an option.

SwitchBackMongo discovered the Nether to be the most troublesome. Particularly, it was an enemy known as the Blaze which is the game's only source of Blaze Rods. Blazes are a key component in the making of The Eye of Ender, which leads you to The End. Extremecraft Blazes are one of two enemies that have to be defeated to complete Minecraft. But does this mean that you must kill them?

SwitchBackMongo shows how to manage the problem. Watch as an Iron Golem decimates fifty Blazes without droppings, and then head to Google like many others to find the answer. It's true that wolves are man's best friend and they were able to get the job done.

The entire event is a pleasure to watch because it's a brand-new venture for the popular Minecraft YouTuber, and they're not 100% certain of how they'll go about it. It's rare to see a challenge run that hasn’t been done before, especially in a game like Minecraft.

In other thrilling Minecraft runs there was a group of players who were able to finish the game in less than two minutes, and a third player decided to capture the Ender Dragon instead of killing it.
