Minecraft Pocket Edition Hits Android Market only Xperia Play Users Need Apply

A few months after its big debut at this year's E3, Minecraft has finally made its way to the Android Market, much to the delight of cube enthusiasts and time-wasters everywhere. Mojang hopes to faithfully recreate Minecraft on mobile platforms with this Pocket Edition app. Mojang puts a particular emphasis on the game's artistic side. Version Alpha 0.1 will allow users to explore worlds that are randomly generated, invite their friends to play in their worlds and save multi-player environments to their mobile phones. They can also manipulate 36 different kinds of blocks from the convenience of their touchscreens. The game is currently available for Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. Mojang plans to launch it "in the near future" for other Android phones. It's available now for $6.99. You can also grab it at the break or read the entire press release.



Say hello to Minecraft - Pocket Edition



Today, we are launching Minecraft Pocket Edition. The game will be accessible only to Xperia Play, but it will soon be accessible to other Android devices.



Alpha 0.1 will be the first version and will focus on the creative aspect of Minecraft. We've tried to incorporate features that work with mobile devices, while preserving the fundamental Minecraft experience. You will be able to select blocks using the touchscreen or just browse through them using the square and circle buttons on the Xperia Play device. Multi-player support on the local wireless network is included in the initial version. This allows you to create a world with friends and invite them to join. This release includes:



Randomized worlds anything you can imagine * Build with 36 different kinds of blocks * Invite and play with friends to your world (local wireless network) * Save multi-player worlds to your own mobile
