Java Edition Locks Out Old Accounts In March

In 2020, the developers announced a major update for Minecraft: Java Edition. Players will soon be required to switch from a Mojang account to an Microsoft account to continue playing. This is "soon" in relative terms, as we still haven't actually hit the deadline however, the developers have confirmed the date and put out the final announcement for account migration.



As as of March 10, you'll no longer be able to play Minecraft: Java Edition with a Mojang account. The developers want all users to switch to Microsoft accounts for "improved security and player security" and are entice people to make the change with the promise of free Minecraft capes. You can get all the information on how to transfer your account here. Java Edition will be supported as normal following the change and will remain a distinct entity from Bedrock.
