Minecraft Hits 54 Million Sold And Console Editions Pass PC

The popular blocky sandbox game Minecraft is close to 54 million copies sold across all platforms, according to Mojang's Patrick Geuder, who also added via Twitter that the console (Xbox 360 and PS3) versions of the game have exceeded sales of the PC and Mac versions. The game will be available on Xbox One, PS4 and Vita in August, the latter being Cross-Buy compatible and free for users of the PS3 version. Minecraft realms servers Xbox 360 and PS4 owners who have the game installed on their Xbox 360 or PS3 will now be able download the latest-gen versions for $5.



The first time that players played Minecraft came in May 2009, when the alpha version of Minecraft was made available, over two years before its official release in November. Mojang and creator Markus "Notch" Persson have celebrated numerous sales milestones since then, recently noting that 15 million copies of the PC version were sold as of April. The Xbox 360 version sold 12 million copies, and the Pocket Edition for iOS or Android has reached 21 million. [Image: Mojang]
