The Minecraft server is a piece of software that is used to control the multiplayer mode of Minecraft. Only a handful of games allow you create and host your own game. ARK: Survival Evolved and Counter-Strike are just a few of the games that allow you to host your own game.

Servers can be set up to host game sessions among friends or there are some dedicated servers. Dedicated servers are servers that are specifically designed for certain groups, such as children and families. It takes time and money to build a dedicated server. The people responsible for maintaining it take a lot of effort.

Most of the servers are set up for multiplayer Minecraft gaming with friends. It is possible to create a Minecraft server, but it can be a bit complicated. Hosting your own server allows you to customize the gaming experience by spawning hostile elements, NPCs and adjusting difficulty levels. Moreover, servers give you control over who plays the game.

This guide will teach you how to create a Minecraft server. These instructions will cover both Windows and macOS servers.

How to create a Minecraft server on macOS

Let's build a server for macOS.

First, Java is required on your device. Open the terminal and type this command:

If the output shows the version number, it means that Java is already installed. Otherwise, download it from here.

Next, download the server here:

Download the Server

Give the folder a name. I am going to call it "Minecraft Server" then place the server data in it.

Make sure the file's name is "server.jar". Double-click the file "server.jar", and it will ask you for security permissions.

Allow it from "Security & Privacy".

After double-clicking, you will be able to download several more files

Now, open "eula.txt" file in text edit and modify it as shown in the image below:

After you have made "eula=true", close your file and save it.

Open the terminal and type "give command to run server" Make sure you're in the same directory that the "server.jar” file is located.

If you want to run a server with GUI, then simply omit "nogui" from the above command. That's it! The server is now up.

Now, click on the "Multiplayer” option and launch the game.

Click on the "Add Server" option:

Assign the desired name to your server and type the server address as "localhost":

To find the IP of your computer, go to "System Preferences" and click on "Network":

Note the IP Address:

To play with other players in the same network, you can stop the server by entering "stop" in the terminal. Open "server property", locate "server ip=", then type your IP address in this field as shown in the image below:

Anyone who wishes to join your server must have the IP address.

Single-player Minecraft is great fun, regardless of whether it's in survival mode (or creative mode). However, playing it with friends magnifies the fun and amusement of the game. Although the process of setting up a Minecraft Server is complex, it's not as difficult as you might think. This article covered the complete process of setting up a server on Windows and macOS. Your server allows you to control your multiplayer game and make many configuration settings. You can change the game's settings, including the difficulty, spawning, and number of players. If you want to expand your server and are interested to add players from all over the world, then you need to do port mapping. But it has its security risks.
